ABOUT NUTRITION

WHY GOOD NUTRITION IS SO VITAL

Why see a nutritionist?

You may be thinking “I’m pretty healthy and I know what foods are good for me so why do I need someone advising me?”

This is a good question with a relatively complicated answer.

It is almost impossible to include ALL the healthy foods into our diet every day, some are less important than others for certain individuals. Having someone advise you with the correct foods suited for you and the correct amounts makes all the difference.

Person A who is overweight will not be prescribed the same diet plan as person B, who is also overweight.
This is because we are all different and respond to treatment differently.
Each prescription needs to be suited to that individual.
There are many factors that play a role in determining what is the best treatment for an individual, from one’s own Health constitution, weight, past and present illnesses, ailments, hormones, lifestyle etc.

When it comes to chronic conditions like cancer one cannot simply have a generic eating plan and take vitamins. There is a process and the body will need to go through different stages. It is important to have a nutritionist on hand and monitor how the body is responding. Person A with chronic illness might be advised to cut certain food groups from the diet while person b with the same illness might be encouraged to eat more of a certain food group.

Correct Nutrition is the first most important medicine for the body followed by added vitamins and minerals, herbal remedies and supplementation.

Nutrition

Good nutrition is an important part of leading a healthy lifestyle. Combined with physical activity, your diet can help you to reach and maintain a healthy weight, reduce your risk of chronic diseases (like heart disease and cancer), and promote your overall health

What is good nutrition?

Good nutrition means your body gets all the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals it needs to work its best. It is best to plan your meals and snacks to include nutrient-dense foods that are also low in calories.

Balancing exercise with nutrition

Balancing exercise with nutrition is very important and I have found the right nutrition can be real medicine for the body. We have billions of bacteria in our gut which send signals to the rest of our body and our brain. If we don’t eat properly then our body won’t function properly and our brains don’t work as well as they should. In achieving a fit and healthy body, your diet makes up 80% of the results that you want to achieve, that means that only 20% is due exercise

Sports Nutrition

Training is the focus for most athletes and sports enthusiasts, however the correct nutrition provides the building blocks to perform, recover and maintain a strong immune system to maximise strength and muscle hypertrophy.

  • Performance and Recovery
  • Injury prevention and repair
  • Energy Maintenance
