The Method by ROUX

A new Pilates instructor certification pathway for the next generation of teachers

Created by our family, for the next generation of teachers

The Method by ROUX™ was founded by Candice van der Merwe, pairing the decades of world-class Pilates teaching experience within the ROUX Wellness team with something most training programs skip entirely: the business intelligence to build a thriving, sustainable career.

The result is a certification pathway that trains exceptional teachers — and sets them up to succeed long after the course ends.

And we don’t simply hand you a certificate and wave goodbye. Every student trains within a supported cohort, stays connected through our alumni community, and is mentored well beyond graduation — because your first year of teaching matters as much as your training.

The ROUX Teaching Model

Every part of the training follows four stages of learning:

Recognise

Feel and identify movement principles in your own body first.

Observe

Learn to see movement clearly in other bodies.

Understand

Know the why behind every exercise and progression.

Express

Teach with clarity, confidence and your own voice.

Your pathway with The Method

Five stages, one framework — from your first day of anatomy to the Advance Diploma.

Mat Certification

A 50-hour, in-person training delivered over 10 training days, supported by online learning resources. You will study the repertoire as a progressive build system — foundation layers first, building through integrated pathways toward advanced work.

And this is a certification that means something. Training attendance alone does not certify you: graduates complete practice hours, a written assessment, an individual practical assessment, a group teaching assessment and a programming submission. When you qualify with The Method, it counts.

Support that doesn’t end with the course

Most programs end at the exam. The Method is built the other way around.

Three months with your educator

Every graduate receives three months of post-course continued support from their own educator, through the ROUX student teacher portal.

Cohort & alumni community

You train within a supported cohort and graduate into our alumni community — you are never left to figure it out alone.

Keep growing

Free continued-support resources in the portal, plus optional short courses and support materials to deepen your skills whenever you are ready.
