Anatomy Review & Postural Analysis Workshop
These 2 workshops are a great way to prepare for our Mat & Reformer courses. Whether you are just a little rusty or new to anatomy this will definitely boost your confidence. The Anatomy review workshops will either remind or introduce you to the anatomy relevant to our courses and the Postural Analysis workshop is great for those who have completed our courses and want to review for exams and or prepare you better for the courses. Anatomy Review – Workshop – 6 hours
This lecture style workshop, developed by the Merrithew™ team, is a review of: Topics include: basic biomechanics (levers, effects of gravitational force, effects of muscle force), anatomical terminology, skeletal anatomy, actions at the joints, major muscle groups and the muscles’ origin insertion and action. Select exercises from the STOTT PILATES® repertoire are also broken down and analyzed in terms of the functional anatomy at play. Participants will deepen their understanding of the body and enhance their teaching.
Workshop Learning objectives
- Understand levers, effects of gravitational force and effects of muscle force
- Review anatomical terminology
- Review musculoskeletal anatomy
- Review muscle origins, insertions and actions
- Understand how to analyze the functional anatomy of an exercise

Postural Analysis Review – Workshop – 2 hours
This hands-on workshop, developed by the Merrithew™ team, outlines the importance of postural analysis in programming STOTT PILATES® workouts. Discuss the differences between static and dynamic posture and consider how each affects exercise choices and modifications necessary. Review postural theory relating to the effect of certain postures on muscle length and strength and actively practice postural analysis.

- Review the steps in conducting a formal postural analysis
- Learn how to identify muscular imbalances as they relate to faulty posture
- Practice locating bony landmarks and palpating structures
- Understand how postural issues play into exercise programming
